The pilot Kees van Heeringen of the Pilotage Amsterdam-IJmond maneuvered the chemical tanker “Louise Knutsen” in the locks of IJmuiden. The crew is ready to operate the winches for mooring. It is dangerous work at the winches because they control a lot of forces. They are experienced guys who can operate the winches.

Pilots of Port Klang (Malaysia).

Port Klang, Selangor, Malaysia January 9 2012 8.33 am

Port Klang, Selangor, Malaysia January 9 2012 8.41 am

Captain Mazhazli Bin Jamaludin, Pilot Superintendent of the Malyasian Pilots told us that he had not been authorized by the Marine Department for me to take a photoshoot of the work of the pilots. He felt very sorry and offered us a guided tour to the pilotboats in the harbor. In Port Klang there is an open connection to the Strait of Malacca and a pilot trip takes about half an hour. The pilots have to deal with wind and sometimes  very heavy rainfall. Capt. Mahazli escorted us to the maingate of Westports where we got our passports back.

Port Klang Malaysia, January 9, 2012  10.44 am
During our visit to Malaysia, we also paid a visit to Port Klang. Port Klang is the main port of Malaysia. Via the pilots in Singapore, I got the name of the chairman of the pilots in Westports of Port Klang. I have made contact with Captain Mazhazli Bin Jamaludin, Pilot Superintendent of Marine Department. He invited me to visit the pilots in Port Klang. On the way from Penang to Singapore, we planned an overnight stay in Klang. The next day we were searching for Westports of Port Klang. Westports is the gateway to the harbors of Port Klang. There were very strict security measures to get access. With police escort we were brought to the office of the pilots. Here we were very hospitably received by Capt. Mazhazli.

Port of Singapore from the Admiral Cheng Ho.

Singapore, December 26, 2011 11:00 am

On a tourist cruise with the “Admiral Cheng Ho”, a beautiful junk boat, I wanted to see more of the second largest harbor of the world. Unfortunately the ship didn’t sail in the real port of Singapore but sailed to the mouth of the river, the islands and the ships at anchor. There was a beautiful view of the skyline of Singapore, including the Marina Bay Sands hotel built in the shape of a ship, but the real harbor of Singapore was still far away.

IJsselmeer (Hindeloopen) February 11, 2012 3.10 pm

While ships in the major ports of the Netherlands sail, the barges suffer from the inland ice. The IJsselmeer is completely frozen. Every day icebreakers assist the barges to run a passage on the IJsselmeer.

The Lighthouse of Marken in the ice.

Marken, February 5, 2012, 2.55 pm

The Lighthouse is my favorite place on the waterfront in summer but especially in winter. Surrounded by snow and ice it seemed like an expedition to get here. Because of the exceptional circumstances the Lighthouse was opened for the public.
