Region Amsterdam-IJmond

The region Amsterdam-IJmond starts 26 nautical miles from the coast in the IJ-geul and ends by the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal in Amsterdam. Ships with a draft till 17.80 m can entrance the port of IJmuiden. Coming from the North Sea the access to Amsterdam is via the locks in IJmuiden and the Noordzeekanaal. The maximum dimensions of vessels allowed on the Noordzeekanaal are 325 m length, 45 m width and 14.0 m draught. The area of the pilots of Region Amsterdam-IJmuiden consist also the ports of Velsen, Beverwijk and Zaandam. The port of Den Helder, in the North, also belongs to the area.
