Pilotage Russian Tall ship ‘Sedov’

During Sail Den Helder 2013 I sailed on the tall ship ‘Sedov’ to the anchorage on the Rede van Texel. There all the tall ships assembled for the Fleet Review on Thursday 20th June, the first day of Sail Den Helder 2013. It was the third time I sailed with the ‘Sedov’, see my post http://www.mirjam-terpstra.com/?p=2056. It is one of my favorite tall ships. It was beautiful to see her sailing towards me.

Sail Den Helder 2013

During Sail Den Helder 2013 the tall ship Cuauhtémoc will also be present. The training vessel of the Mexican Navy is 90 meters long and 12 meters wide. The home of the tall ship is Acapulco and the ship was build by the Naval Shipyards of Bilbao, Spain in 1982. At Sail Den Helder 2008 I sailed with the tall ship Cuauhtémoc  during the impressive Parade of Sail on the Marsdiep. See my post: Pilotage Tall Ship ‘Cuauhtémoc’ in Den Helder. The Parade was conducted by Prince Maurits at the Dutch Navy vessel Hr. Ms. de Ruyter.

Sail Den Helder 2013

Great news! The Director of the Foundation Sail Den Helder 2013 Jeannette Blijdorp-Jonker asked me to participate in a team of photographers during Sail Den Helder. This unique event will take place in the port of Den Helder of The Netherlands from 20 – 23 of June 2013.This year the event coincides with the Navy Days because of the celebration of 525 years of the Dutch Royal Navy. So the quays are lined with authentic tall ships and modern navy ships. See for more information about Sail Den Helder 2013 http://www.saildenhelder.nl/

This picture of the ‘Cisne Branco’ was taken at Sail Den Helder 2008.

A visit to the Port of Gdansk

Because it was not possible to photograph the entire pilotage in Gdansk we were invited by Pilot Jakub Sczcerbinski of the Gdansk Pilot Organization to visit the port of Gdansk with the pilot vessel. The port of Gdansk is located in north central Poland Moltawa at the mouth of the river on the southern shores of Gdansk Bay off the Baltic Sea. The Port of Gdansk houses two port areas. Nowy Port (New Port) is a major industrial center and Port Polocny (North Port). At the pilot vessel we had a beautiful view of the harbor and the old city of Gdansk, as the Old Crane Gate (Zuraw). Some of the houses resemble the facades in Amsterdam. It is remarkable to see the old cranes and the great contrast between old and new buildings.
